Success Story
Tom Langton, Head of Support Services
Joined LexisNexis Visualfiles in 1995 as a Support and Installation Team Trainee
After working at the University of Leeds within the computer services team I joined Solicitec, as it was, back in March 1995. Originally I joined as a trainee within the Support and Installation team, being one of a team of only three.
Within a year I was made a full Support and Installation Analyst, and continued to gain skills working along side Project Managers and the Technical Team. I gained the mix of technical, application and customer service skills needed to be able to carry out a number of different roles which at the time were required as the company grew. With the Support and Installation Teams splitting in 1998 I decided to concentrate on support and became a Team Leader within the department, looking after a small team of Support Analysts. The Support Team continued to grow and increased from three people in 1995 to 12 by 1998 and to 16 by 1999.
In August 1999 it was decided that the team was at such a size, and was now so specialised, that it could no longer be managed by the Head of Professional Services and I was interviewed and subsequently appointed Support Manager with responsibility for all external and internal support functions. Since 1999 the department has continued to evolve and improve, offering many enhanced non-standard support functions such as technical training and consultancy, and enhanced online services.
I have now been working for LexisNexis Visualfles for over 10 years and still think it’s a great place to work. I still get motivated and excited by the direction the company is moving, and feel that I have always been able to play my part in determining the direction not just of my own team, but the company as a whole.
